So, I'm a witch, so what?

Chapter 29: They're not my kids!

{Toast to Coast - Arcangelo Chen}

"Speaking of kids, master, when did you find out that you have two more missing daughters?" Mr Auri, a man of few words but with a weighty presence that filled the room, asked. His question hung in the air, the tension palpable. The adoptive father caught off guard, replied defensively.

"They're not precisely my children, you see! I swear I would never be so irresponsible as not to watch over my kids! I would never do that!" Mr Auri's disbelief in Bartholomew's words was as clear as day, and he let him know full well.

"There's no shame, master. A man as popular as you is bound to leave a few stray kids here and there; it actually speaks well of your popularity with the ladies." Bartholomew soon realized that Mr Auri over here had already made up his mind about us, and so he chose to accept his fate of being labeled as an "irresponsible" parent.

"Anyway, how did you know this would occur? Did you finally manage to learn the unique skill of 'Oracle?' Or perhaps something of the sort." Mr. Auri let out a slight sigh like a disappointed student when their master expected more of them than he had achieved.

"No, I simply heard from one of my scouts that a convoy of the church headed this way; naturally, knowing the church's history of betrayal and deception, I had to come to check it out for myself, and good thing I did." Bartholomew shook his head in approval and then turned around to introduce us to his "friend" finally.

"Well, as you have seen, these two are my 'daughters.' The shorter one right here is Yoimiya, and the one next to her is Veronica, although she prefers the nickname 'Vera' for whatever reason." Hey, wait a second! Did you just call me Shortie!? I'm sure you didn't just imply I'm shorter than Vera! I'm ahh! Dang, I am!

"Oh, I see, I see. Yoimiya and Veronica, their names are not from around here, that's for sure. Just how far did you go on your past trips, master? I didn't know you had it in you like that!" Auri pressed the matter even further, only managing to anger Bartholomew, who thought defending himself would only serve to solidify Auri's theory.

"I've told you! Ugh, whatever. So, you're going back to your house now that you've arrested that church fella?" Father asked with his arms crossed in disapproval of Auri's fake assumptions.

"Yeah, I've got to travel back with them to resolve this minor incident. Truth be told, I don't know why they're so interested in your kids over here." Mr Auri seemed reluctant to continue his conversation with his father so long as we stood nearby; I quickly grabbed Vera's hand and pulled her away with me toward the town.

It is only natural for adults to want to talk in private, away from any kids in essential cases, so moving out of the picture would be for the best. Hopefully, Father and Auri could have a better talk with us out of their way. Vera seemed a little confused about my actions, but I'm sure she'll eventually catch on.

"Why did you pull my arm so hard back there? You know a simple 'follow me' would've been enough, right?" Said an angry Vera right after giving me a sturdy stud on my head with all her might. I understand her completely, but was it really necessary to hit me that hard?! I'll get you back, Vera!

"Father and Auri clearly wanted to talk further without us nearby, so I took it upon myself to move us out of their way. You're rude for a girl, you know?" Vera laughed at my last phrase as if I said something stupid, but I simply wanted to remind her that bonking people in the head wasn't very ladylike!

"Puff! Who are you to scold me about lady manners? Miss, I sit with my legs open while wearing a short dress!" Ahh! Hey! That's a low blow! Quite literally, that's not fair! I simply like the breeze, okay! I'm not a pervert or something, okay!? +sigh+ I'm getting on an FBI watchlist after this chapter. Woah! No way! I broke the fourth wall! Tehe! (Ehete nandayo!)

After my short conflict with Vera, I choose peace and simply let her win the argument, which seems to put her in a good mood again. +Sigh+ Why are girls such troublemakers anyway? Am I like that, too? No way! I'm way more sophisticated to be mad at everything for any reason!

In other news, I guess I haven't checked my stats in a very long time. Should I take advantage of the time alone to check them out? I don't see why not, so here goes nothing! Hand over my myself and! Appraisal!
