Chapter 53: Blood Stained the Ground.

Wenxu Jiang hadn’t had a proper sleep for days. Someone was constantly on his mind. He couldn’t stop thinking about the person, couldn’t help feeling the heartache. Wenxu was in agony. He refused to accept the fact since the day he walked out of the hospital. He was so afraid to see Zhishu’s health condition worse. Wenxu Jiang would rather the pain was on him.
But he couldn’t get hold of any whereabouts of Zhishu. When it led to Ziqian Ai, the partner of his, he thought that guy would be a sensible man, whereas he never expected that the guy was another asshole that pretended to know nothing. It was obvious that he was determined to cover his brother up. Wenxu Jiang was so mad that he pulled out all the stops to go head to head against Ziqian Ai in the last few days.
Today, Wenxu Jiang fell asleep at his desk. He was too tired, physically and mentally. He was unable to enjoy a deep sleep because of the uncomfortable position. It felt like his body was still responding to the environment but the drowsiness had brought him into dreamland.
The dream felt so real. In a trance state, Wenxu found himself back in high school classroom again, studying chemistry. The teaching made him very sleepy. Before he closed his eyes at his desk, the last person he saw was the boy sitting next to him; the boy wearing the school uniform properly had black and soft hair and was listening carefully to the teacher, whose eyes sparkled gentleness and innocence.
“Zhishu...” Wenxu heard someone weeping in his dream. When he woke up, the chilling fluids on his cheek caught him off guard. He didn’t move; his lifeless eyelashes flipped; his low and hoarse voice sounded like he was sobbing. “Zhishu, come back, please. You can do whatever you want...” He said.
Cats or dogs, Zhishu could keep them if there were enough space in the house. No matter how busy I were, I would hug and kiss you after work, I would bend over like a little pet to make you laugh. I would be willing to give all my heart to you so that you would stay forever with me.
Wenxu Jiang drove home at late night because the scent of Zhishu lingered in his house. He wasn’t sure whether the fragrance smelled like the ink in books or the still sandalwood. It wasn’t aggressive, same as that man, who could even be a bit bland in a long-term relationship, but when he suddenly disappeared, he could be the drug that turns Wenxu into an insatiable addict.
Wenxu Jiang was in a very bad mood today, he peculated some of the company’s working capital for his own use. The board was unhappy about it. But thanks to his long autocracy, it wasn’t too big of a problem.
When the elevator door opened, Wenxu Jiang saw someone crouching in the dark at his door. His heart jerked. He remembered that two months ago, Zhishu He was locked out of the house by him. Zhishu was as thin as this man. He must be sad and have kept silent in disappointment. He must have dared not to argue or fawn.
Wenxu Jiang was a bit flustered. His heart felt like being nibbled by thousands of tiny bugs. Sorrow and regret overwhelmed him. He was too nervous to take a step. He couldn’t help thinking to himself, “Has Zhishu come back to him?”
“Hey, Wenxu...” It was a deliberately softened sobbing voice pleasing and begging him.
Wenxu Jiang’s vision dimmed as if he had got hit on the head. He stood still and finally asked cold-bloodedly, “What are you doing here?”
“How dare you show up here?” Unexpectedly, Wenxu Jiang shouted out loud furiously. Red mist filled up his eyes as he stepped close to Zui Shen. “Do you know how many times I thought about destroying you?”
“I thought about having you raped and your face ruined,” Wenxu said in a cold voice, “So that you would become the lowest prostitute and get fucked by men day and night until you catch STD and die.” Wenxu was pretty much emotionless when he said this, calmly and peacefully, but you wouldn’t doubt the authenticity of every single word he said.
Wenxu Jiang burst into laughter, sarcastic laughter. And then he smacked on his own face unexpectedly. “But I don’t have the right!”
He had no right to punish the one who hurt his love because it was never anyone else’s fault, but his own.
Zui Shen tottered towards Wenxu Jiang, trying to hold him by the waist but got kicked away. Zui Shen’s back bumped the door, the collision must hurt but it could never compete with the pain in his heart. “Wenxu, don’t leave me. It was my fault...” Zui Shen had the fairest face, which was now pale. He looked terribly delicate and pitiful with his teary face. “We can be what we used to be... You can screw me any way you like it. I won’t try to replace the irreplaceable one of yours...”
Wenxu Jiang’s look was indiscernible in the dark. His felt indescribably uncomfortable. “Fuck off now. Don’t you say these disgusting things to me in front of my house.” Wenxu Jiang didn’t want to hear it. He was disgusted as Zui Shen crawled back to him and him the body. Also, he was disgusted with himself for once being self-indulgent.
Zui Shen didn’t speak. He cried. Tears fell non-stopping. “Wenxu Jiang, I really love you.” He finally caught his breath and said.
He really loved him but he didn’t know why. Even though this man rarely treated him gently and they were together for sex. It felt like every drip of fluid came out of his eyes was blood rather than tear. He was expressionless but his eyes showed timidity like a kid. “I didn’t mean to take your ring away. Please, Wenxu... You said that I can have the house but I never changed the name on the ownership certificate. I didn’t spend a penny from the money that you put in my bank card. I didn’t want you to be my sugar daddy...”
Zui Shen’s sobs were too heavy a burden on the heart. “I knew you were in love with someone else but I kept telling... telling myself that I am no worse than anyone... Don’t hate me, please... I am not... I am not a bad person...”
Wenxu Jiang’s finger quivered intensely. He knew how badly love could hurt. It had hurt Zhishu He, it was hurting Zui Shen, and it would hurt Wenxu Jiang.
“Leave.” Wenxu Jiang sighed. I’m busy lately, we’ll talk in some other day.
Zui Shen’s eyes sparkled, he grinned like a child. “OK, Wenxu. I’ll come back again in a few days. See you.”
Zui Shen left obediently. He wasn’t stupid after all.
He wandered on the street in an unclear state of mind. The crossroad traffic lights malfunctioned; a black Maserati zoomed over at full speed and boom!
Blood stained the ground.
A human life, to others, was just a piece of news on the next day’s newspaper.
