Ch 59. Dusting off
It felt like something taken right out of a manga or some kind of work like that, the classic scene where a character is so awfully powerful, that just its mere presence makes its opponents bend their knees.
However, this wasn't something caused by its willpower, its aura, its soulforce or something mysterious and mythical like that. No, this was something the Dormouse was making on purpose, something that won't affect ghosts but will affect everything within a certain area.
What's worse, this skill becomes stronger as we get closer to the Dormouse, or as he gets closer to us. And we have already fallen right into the spider’s web.
There's no way for me to get away from him at this point, and there's no reason for the Dormouse to not come right at me and finish what we already started. You could easily tell that it's already game over.
Even worse, if somehow Kirwha or Fynx came here and tried to help us, they’ll also fall into this weird skill, meaning that we should manage to get out of here by our own means.
“C-Can’t you do something? Take out his soul or something like that?”
“W-What kind of ghost do you think I am, Onii chan?! There's no way for me to do something like that, I’m a ghost, not a cursed spirit, you know?”
No, there's no way I could know about cursed spirits that are able to simply take out someone’s soul, but maybe as a ghost she could do something like damaging his spirit and making him fall back or something like that, so I tried to ask her again.
“Maybe if he gets closer I could manage to strike him with my <Cursed Flames>, but I dont think your body would hold that long…”
Did she just say <Cursed Flames>? No, there was something even more important about what she said, because she was right: My body.
If this keeps going on, and the Dormouse keeps getting closer to us, I won't be able to even move myself at the moment he reaches us. Even now, I’m barely holding myself from being completely laid on the ground.
My arms, my back and my knees are hurting like hell and I could feel my arms trying to bend from time to time. My body is about to give up, but something deep inside tells me that if I do that, I’ll be finished.
The Dormouse got another step closer and I could feel my arms about to crack. It wasn't my bones but my muscles. There was no human way for them to hold my body away from the ground much longer. They already have gone far from what anyone could expect.
“Onii chan…?!”
“T-This is so frustrating…!”
<The Maggot> gave me a pitiful look and then started to desperately strike the Dormouse with blue flames that came off from its hand. Sadly, the Dormouse was still far from us, and the flames ended up disappearing and banishing in the air.
“Whawawawawa?! This is bad, this is really, really bad!”
The Dormouse lifted one of his feet and right when he was about to take another step closer to us, a thin line was drawn on the ground right in front of him. A thin line of soil and dirt was drawn in the middle of a field covered with grass. A line that came with the sound of air being cut.
“Y-You, bastard! Aren't you forgetting about someone?!”
Phlum, in her kid form, was hardly standing from afar with her hand extended in front of her. She managed to come back from where she was thrown and intercept the route of the Dormouse.
You could tell that she was injured, but she also looked really angry. A small, angry looking, harpy child with burning and sparkling eyes.
“I’ll take you down, and then I'll finish that pair of weirdos!”
Normally, that would have been a meaningless threat. But she was Phlum, the right hand of the Demon Lord, and she was being serious.
“So you finally came back. I thought I would have to do your part of the work too. Fufufu~”
“I guess I’ll finish you later, Fynx. Haha~!”
Right, as I said, she was really angry.
