Chapter 269: Life Shard II
As Lia gazed at Knight's shocked expression, she slightly nudged him
"Young Master, what is it?"
He looked at the raging sea of fire as he let out a bitter laugh.
"I think I found a way"
Since he had already reached this place, he could not possibly retreat. Although Sterling and the rest were trapped, he had to trust the mysterious man inside his head if he wanted to bring Don back from death.
Thinking about Don, he no longer hesitated. A powerful Battle Energy gushed forth and wrapped around their bodies again. At the same time, Lia tightly clutched her sword preparing to deal with any sudden situation that might occur at any time.
Thoroughly prepared, they slowly stepped forward, as Lia saw that he was on the verge of stepping into the sea of flames, she hesitated and quickly pulled his sleeves
"Young Master, it's lava!"
"Trust me"
He simply said and stepped on the sea of fire while Lia closed her eyes for a moment to muster her courage. And then, she deeply exhaled and stepped on the lava following him, however, the burning pain he anticipated did not come. Only then did her tensed heart finally relax, as she wiped off a layer of sweat from the forehead.
"Stay close"
Lia nodded her head while she continued to walk forward into the deeper parts of the flaming sea. The surrounding flames no longer caused her to feel the heat. Knight tried to grab at the flames yet he felt like he's grabbing nothing but air. He did not feel anything at all.
He quickened his pace and reached the deeper parts. And then he was gradually able to see Sterling and the rest, who were giving their all to resist the waves of flame which shot out from the sea of fire. For a time, they seemed to be rather alarmed. These unlucky fellows had taken the wrong path and ended up in the formation's attack range.
In the sea of fire, Knight and Lia were able to see them, however, it looked like they were unable to see the former.
"hmm..."
As his gaze swept across the sea of fire around him, he frowned and had a bad feeling. This was because he had noticed that the girl who stood atop the red lotus was unexpectedly not there stuck with the rest.
"Did she pass through this formation?" Dark lines appeared on his forehead. He was only able to effortlessly unravel this formation because of the voice inside his head, yet, if that girl had overcome it with her own strength, she might become a threat, he thought.
After all, the prodigies Sterling and the rest were all stuck here.
While he was thinking about the girl, a large illusionary door that seemed like it was made of copper suddenly appeared in the sea of fire before them.
"pop"
Staring at the illusory appearance of the huge door, he cracked his neck a few times. He did not expect someone to enter before him. If he was not wrong, it should be that girl who called Loretta.
"No matter who it is, the life shard is mine!"
He said in his mind and strolled through the door without any hesitation as the sea of flame completely dispersed. A peaceful stone hall appeared before his eyes.
Lia was momentarily shocked by the sudden change in scenery.
There were not overly extravagant decorations in this stone hall, and instead, it looked rather simple and empty. Knight's gaze swept across the stone hall before his eyes fixed at its center. A stone coffin without a lid stood there and atop the stone coffin, was a ball of light that emitted a vigorous life force.
He slightly narrowed his eyes, as he concentrated on that ball of light. Faintly, he could see a dark green shard that seemed to be made of bright energy, which was gently vibrating. As the shard vibrated, the Life Energy in the hall also seemed to tremble.
"Life Shard!"
Knight said in an astonished tone while Lia tried to guess what this is.
"Young Master, what is this thing?"
Her gaze focused on that ball of light as she slowly stepped forward.
"This is not a place you can come to, please leave"
However, just as his foot stepped forward, an icy voice that was infused with Life energy suddenly reverberated the quiet stone hall.
He halted his steps as he slowly lifted his head. His pupils slightly shrank gazing up in the air. There, a red lotus floated, and on top of the lotus, was a beautiful figure. She was currently gazing at him with a pair of clear and sharp eyes, which did not have even the slightest emotion on its surface.
From a short distance away, Knight gazed at the mysterious woman, whose bare soft as a baby's bottom feet stepped on the red lotus. Even a beautiful girl like Lia had to recognize her breathtaking beauty. Her clear eyes were like a calm and quiet lake, while her silver-colored dress aligned itself neatly against her almost perfect figure.
She possessed a stunning beauty, the kind of beauty that would shock one's heart and move one's soul.
As Lia's gaze swept over this girl, the awe in her eyes lasted for quite a while before it finally faded. However, Knight stood there with an indifferent expression on his face but he wasn't as calm as he looks because Don's life depends on him now.
"Hmm, I don't see your name anywhere around here, does this tomb belongs to your ancestor?"
Lia's neck air stood straight up when she heard him talking to a girl who was respected by Sterling himself. However, his tone didn't even contain the tiniest bit of fear or respect towards her. Lia couldn't see the girl's reaction to Knight through the veil.
"Even Sterling and the rest had taken a wrong step and fell into the trap of the formation, yet, you two have reached here, so you do indeed have some skill and the means to be arrogant" The veil on the mysterious woman's face lightly trembled, her melodious voice now had a tint of anger in it.
"Forcefully chasing away someone is not something Loretta is willing to do. Thus, I hope will not mind and leave the place peacefully
In the air, she bowed towards Knight, however, though her words were especially polite, Knight was able to hear the faint threat behind them.
Lia knew that although she looked polite and even sounded gentle, her heart was likely akin to black ice.
"Backoff!"
He simply said and for a moment a glint of anger flashed across her face.
Realizing that he wouldn't back off without a fight, she tried to determine his strength. Even though she was still a little doubtful on how these two had managed to enter this place, in the end, she was unable to believe that she can't defeat them. She had seen way too many young geniuses before, and hence, she also had the confidence that even if he stayed here, with her strength, she would be able to easily subdue him if he made any movements.
Therefore, the fact that she did not attack the moment she saw him and forcibly chased him out was actually sort of looking down on him from a certain point of view. This was because she believed that no matter what these two intended to do, it could not possibly affect her at all. And in her eyes, the disrespect he showed him was akin to a dog barking at the sun, so she didn't lose her temper.
Her eyes then slowly shifted away from Knight and Lia, as she looked at the ball of light that was floating above the stone coffin. She had likewise seen the Life Shard hidden within it, however, even in the face of such a treasure, only a few tiny ripples surfaced in her limpid eyes. On her face, no delight was displayed.
"I did not expect that I would truly find a Guardian Stone here"
Seeing her move forward, Knight turned back and reached out to grab the Life Shard before she could because he didn't want to get distracted in a fight in case someone steals the Life shard while he was fighting.
"STOP!"
When his hand was just a few inches apart from the Life shard, Loretta's voice sounded like a thunderous clap and forced him to take a few steps away.
Her glance caused Lia to shiver in fear. If a single gaze could kill a person, Knight would have died by now and looking at her Peak Grandmaster level magical fluctuations, she swallowed a mouth full of saliva and stared at Knight.
"This is my final warning, no matter how valuable this treasure is, you need to be alive to use it. If I were you, I will turn back and never come back"
A killing intent emerged in her eyes. Although Lia had only spent a little time with him, she knew very well that he's not the type who would back off, so she prepared herself for a battle.
"I do not respond to threats. I make them"
